Major supporters of the new EA Networks Sports Centre
Celebrating the launch of this impressive new complex in May 2015, RX Plastics is proud to support the opening of a wonderful facility for the Ashburton community.
Fourteen years of fundraising, community debate and construction finally came to its conclusion in May 2015 with the official opening of the brand new EA Networks Centre in Ashburton. The new 8,000m² complex includes four swimming pools, a full gymnasium, steam room and spa, stadium, meeting rooms and a cafe.
The project was launched in 2001, with Council setting an initial fundraising target of $5 million to get the new Centre off the ground. The Stadium Trust hit that target within 18 months and as a bronze sponsor RX Plastics is proud to be one of the contributors to that total, with an ongoing commitment for funding making it our second largest annual sponsorship.
Situated on an old river terrace along the Ashburton River, the facility will service the recreational needs of the community and is the first step to developing a recreation precinct master plan complete with outdoor cricket, hockey and rugby pitches.
The simple concept of a single space that houses stadium uses at one end and aquatic facilities at the other provides a cost-effective solution and allows the facility to expand in future.
An expansive foyer, reception, administration and cafe block provide the public interface to the building, and the use of natural materials and glass ensures a welcoming and contemporary aspect with views of the river.
Following the success of the Centre, which is seeing 1000 or more visitors daily, the Trust is already lining up their next fundraising effort, with a Hydroslide at the top of the list for additions to the complex.
